Beautiful piece. The beaver-swan mutualism really captures how keystone species create entire ecosystems, not just habitats. That Manitoba discovery must've been surreal, basically stumbling into proof of Goldfarb's thesis before even reading it. The frozen dormancy angle is smart too, lot of people panic-cut everything down and ruin what winter's actually good for.
